EML Tools

Convert MSG to EML

Turn Outlook .msg files into .eml files that Apple Mail, Thunderbird and almost every other mail app can open. Select several at once and they download together as one ZIP.

Runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

How to use it

  1. Choose your .msg file, or select several to convert them together.
  2. Check the preview, then press “Save as .eml”. Several files download as one ZIP.
  3. Double-click the .eml file to open it in your mail app.

Why convert MSG to EML?

MSG is Outlook's own format, so an email saved from Outlook is stuck there: Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Gmail and phone mail apps can't open it. EML is the internet standard for a single email, and nearly every mail app, archive and eDiscovery tool reads it.

Converting is the simplest way to send an Outlook message to someone on a Mac, import it into Thunderbird, or keep it in an archive that doesn't depend on Outlook.

What's kept in the conversion

The sender, recipients, date, subject, message ID, the formatted HTML body, the plain text version, inline images and every attachment. Outlook often hides the HTML inside a rich text wrapper; it's unwrapped first, so the .eml looks like the original email. Messages written in older, non-Unicode versions of Outlook are decoded with their original character set.

Outlook-only extras such as flags, categories and reminders have no place in an .eml file and are left out.

FAQ

Is my .msg file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.

Can I convert many MSG files to EML at once?

Yes. Select or drop them all, untick any you don't need, and download a ZIP with one .eml file per email. Each file is named after its date and subject.

Will Outlook still open the converted file?

Yes. Outlook opens .eml files too, so the converted email works in Outlook and everywhere else.

How do I convert EML back to MSG?

Use EML to MSG, which writes Outlook .msg files from .eml files.
