EML Tools

Convert MBOX to PDF

Open a mailbox, tick the emails you need, and save them as one PDF with each email on a new page.

Runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

How to use it

  1. Choose your .mbox file from Google Takeout, Thunderbird or Apple Mail.
  2. Search, sort and untick emails until the list holds the ones you want, up to 500.
  3. Press “Save as PDF”, then choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in the print dialog.

Why convert MBOX to PDF?

A mailbox file is fine for backups but awkward to share: the person on the other end needs a mail app and has to find the right messages. A PDF opens anywhere and shows exactly the emails you chose, which is what lawyers, accountants and HR teams usually ask for.

Each email starts on a new page with its subject, sender, recipients and date at the top, followed by the formatted message and its inline images.

Converting a large Gmail export

A Google Takeout file can hold tens of thousands of emails, more than fits sensibly in one PDF. Search by sender or subject to find the conversation you need, check the list, and save. A PDF holds up to 500 emails, so for more, save several PDFs one search at a time.

The list is sorted oldest first, so the PDF reads like the conversation happened.

FAQ

Is my mailbox uploaded?

No. The emails are read and laid out by your browser. The mailbox never leaves your device.

Are attachments included in the PDF?

No, the PDF contains the emails. To keep attachments, open the email in the MBOX viewer to download them, or convert to EML, which keeps each attachment inside its email.

Can I convert Thunderbird folders to PDF?

Yes. Thunderbird stores each folder as an mbox file without an extension, such as Inbox. Drop that file on the box.
