Convert MBOX files
Open a mailbox from Gmail, Thunderbird or Apple Mail, choose the emails, then convert them to the format you need.
Runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
How to use it
- Choose your .mbox file. Google Takeout exports of several gigabytes are fine.
- Search, sort and untick emails until the list holds the ones you want. All are selected to start with.
- Pick PDF, EML, MSG or CSV. EML and MSG download as one ZIP with a file per email.
Which format should you pick?
PDF puts the emails in one document, each on a new page, for reading, printing or handing over as evidence. It holds up to 500 emails at a time.
EML gives you one standard email file per message, which any mail app opens with a double-click. MSG does the same in Outlook's format, for Outlook users and for systems that only accept Outlook files. CSV is a spreadsheet with a row per email: date, sender, recipients, subject, attachment names and the text.
An MBOX converter that doesn't upload your mailbox
Online MBOX converters upload your mailbox to their servers, and their free plans stop at a few hundred megabytes. Desktop converters need installing, usually on Windows only.
This one runs in your browser on any system. The mailbox is read in chunks straight from your disk, so even a multi-gigabyte Gmail export opens in seconds, and none of it is sent anywhere.
FAQ
How do I convert MBOX to MSG?
Open the mailbox here, untick any emails you don't need and pick MSG. You get one ZIP with an Outlook .msg file per email, attachments included.
Can it convert MBOX to PST?
No. PST is Outlook's database format and can't be written in a browser. To get emails into Outlook, convert them to MSG and drag the files into an Outlook folder.
How big can the mailbox be?
Several gigabytes to open and search: the list is built by reading the file in chunks, and each email is only read again when it's converted. Chrome and Edge can turn a whole 3 GB mailbox into one ZIP of EML or MSG files. Safari manages about 2 GB per ZIP, so convert a bigger mailbox in parts, for example one sender at a time.
Is my mailbox uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and the mailbox stays on your device.
Are attachments kept?
In EML and MSG, yes: each file contains its attachments. A PDF shows the emails only, and CSV lists attachment names.
