EML Tools

Convert EML to MSG

Turn standard .eml files into Outlook .msg files, for Outlook users, case files and systems that only accept MSG.

Runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

How to use it

  1. Choose your .eml file, or select several to convert them together.
  2. Check the preview, then press “Save as .msg”. Several files download as one ZIP.
  3. Open the .msg file in Outlook, or drag it into an Outlook folder.

When you need MSG instead of EML

Most mail apps are happy with .eml, but some places insist on Outlook's format: document management and eDiscovery systems, case files that must match the rest of a firm's records, and colleagues who only use Outlook for Windows and want to drag messages straight into a folder.

Converting EML to MSG usually means installing a desktop converter. This page does it in the browser, on Windows, Mac or Linux.

What goes into the .msg file

The subject, sender, To and Cc recipients, the sent date, both the HTML and plain text versions of the message, inline images and every attachment. The original internet headers are stored too, so the routing information survives.

The file is written as a Unicode .msg, the kind Outlook has saved since Outlook 2003, so names and text in any language come through. The message is marked as received and read, not as a draft.

FAQ

Is my email uploaded?

No. The .msg file is built by your browser on your device. The email never reaches a server.

Can I convert several EML files to MSG at once?

Yes. Select or drop all of them, untick any you don't need, and download one ZIP with a .msg file for each email.

Does it work with an .eml that has a winmail.dat attachment?

Yes. The files inside winmail.dat are unpacked and added to the .msg as normal attachments.

How do I convert MSG back to EML?

Use MSG to EML. It turns Outlook .msg files into standard .eml files, one at a time or in a batch.
